Ant Infestations in Trafford, Manchester and Cheshire.

May 27th, 2010

Flying ants are the scourge of many houses in summertime leaving many people to hate the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they know the summer will herald

Only the unfortunate people who have suffered it will realise the true nature of flying ants in their houses.

Having an infestation of ordinary wingless ants is bad enough but when they enter their yearly mating phase the situation can become unbearable.

Ants often form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our houses and these colonies will continue for many years to come if left untreated becoming progressively more troublesome each year.

Our dwellings are warm and dry and provide the ideal places for a growing ant colony; even solid asphalt floor is not a problem to and ant colony.

Our house heating systems keeps their metabolism even in the depths of winter and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which is in January!

Ants prefer a sandy soil and there are plenty areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which tend to provide more ant problems than most others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as hot ant spots.

Unfortunately it is when they are in their mating period that they are most annoying. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this often is pretty often around the middle to end of July.

Ants mate on the wing and around mid-summer the colony produces flying immature Queens and flying males which in nature would fly off and mate in the air. Many thousands of these flying ants are produced by each and nests tend to synchronise their release in order to mate with ants from neighbouring.

Usually this process starts after a period of days of hot, dry weather and will often last for about a week although smaller releases will extend throughout most of June, July & August.

Unfortunately when the nest is located under the floor of the property the effects can be horrifying, literally thousands of flying are produced into the lower rooms, collecting on windows as they make for the light.

This can be extremely distressing for some people leading to extreme emotional trauma to the extent that people learn to hate the summertime and have actually sold their house to escape the plague of ants which they know will come each summer.

The wet summers of the last three years have meant that ant jobs were reduced on earlier but ants appear to have a way of catching up and 2010 could possibly be a particularly good year for them.

Most people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with products from local stores etc but mostly these efforts do not work as they are not getting to the heart of the problem which is the nest itself, tucked safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.

Luckily for many people help.

At Harrier Pest Prevention (subject to local site) we are able to solve this problem and give an extendable 3 year guarantee.

The process which is carried out mostly from the exterior of the house, is perfectly safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling little holes into the cavity walls of the building, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.

This forms an uncrossable barrier across which the ants cannot move and together with a precautionary spray of the inside (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the problem to its end.

The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it is a simple matter of topping up the cavity walls every 3 to extend the effectiveness of the guarantee in three year blocks.

This treatment is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.

As a very limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering 25 percent off the normalstandard price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are willing to venture further afield but this will be at extra cost.
