Top 5 Ways to Stay Motivated to Lose Weight
September 29th, 2009When losing weight, it’s extremely important that you maintain a high level of motivation. There are so many temptations that can hinder your weight loss efforts, so you have to keep your goals in front of you constantly. Here are three great ways you can do that.
1. Avoid negative influence. When I was a teenager, my extended family was all overweight. So when I would try to lose weight, they would often make well-meaning comments like you’re getting too skinny or you need to eat more. The more you can avoid people who don’t see your weight loss goals as being positive, the better.
2. Seek positive influence. While negative influence can certainly hinder your progress, positive influence can have the opposite effect. So seek out friends and relatives who are working toward the same goals you are and spend as much time with them as you can. Swap ideas and success stories, too. If you don’t have any friends or relatives, join a weight loss program such as Weight Watchers that encourages interaction with other people trying to lose weight.
3. Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. I learned that at Weight Watchers, and can personally vouch for the truthfulness of those words. Whenever you’re confronted with an opportunity to go overboard, or eat something you shouldn’t, repeat those words to yourself. Imagine yourself being thin and fit if you pass on that piece of pie or that ice cream and cookies. Suddenly they won’t look so appealing.
Taking the above actions is a great way to keep your motivation strong, and motivation is a definite requirement when trying to lose weight.
